Ok I feel as though I need to rant about something. Hollywood spawns the most ridiculous trends. Whether it’s designer bags, leggings, or adopting babies – they got it covered. The trend right now though, is rehab. And what the hell????? Seriously. Who has been to rehab lately? Lindsay Lohan, Robbie Williams, Britney Spears, Nicole Ritchie, Isaiah Washington and today I read the Jesse Metcalfe (of Desperate Housewives fame) is joining in on the fun. Now maybe rehab isn’t a trend and these people all have valid issues. But I don’t know. I just find it odd that going to rehab is part of my everday tabloid readings and that’s weird. It’s strange that ALL of these people are choosing to go into rehab around the same time. It’s also odd that their publicists send out a press release to announce it to the world. Shouldn’t something like going to rehab be a personal experience? If you don’t advertise that they’re going, maybe people wouldn’t know they’re there and would leave them alone! Geez.
I get so frustrated with the celebrity world sometimes. Maybe I should stop reading gossip blogs… If only I could somehow. I’m just addicted. Maybe I should go to rehab too!! hahaha. I hate that hollywood is making rehab seem like something easy. Easy to decide to go to, easy to be in, and easy to get back to your life after. Because it’s not! I think it’s horrible that rehab is becoming somewhat of a joke because it is a very serious form of treatment for very serious disorders. It’s frustrating. Anyways. That’s my rant!

I completely agree with you. Having a baby was the trend before rehab (poor Angelina, she kinda missed that note (at least she is doing something somewhat good tho)) and this trend now is sick. For these people, they jump in and out of rehab like its just something to do for the day, in this case I’m refering to Britney Spears, and do not go there to get better. If they did want to get help they would stay there for more that one or two days and it should be private, for sure!
I too wish that I was not so knowledgeable on whats going on with everyone, but what can you do? lol

I have to wonder…. did Britney really need rehab? I mean, maybe she was just doing the typical (to some people) things that young women do… and has very poor judgement. However, due to the fact that she’s in the spot light and is going through a custody battle, rehab seemed the thing to do. If Britney labled herself as an addict who was ‘responsible’ enough to seek help and over come this “disease” for the sake of her children? This may be less damaging then if she was seen as just an immature girl with little self-restraint and little regard for her kids? (not that I agree with entering rehab to make yourself look good hahaha).

I don’t know, I’m not in Hollywood, but maybe these trends, such as rehab, only seem like trends because they are the thing that are being portrayed in the media at the time. I mean I’m sure that there are people who always wear a certain style of bag, and then a few more do, but when the media notices and portrays this style is when it really becomes a trend.
Just like rehab. I’m sure that there have been people going to rehab in the celebrity world for a long time. But now all of a sudden it seems like there’s a plethora of people going, and it’s probably only because the media is deciding to portray this … hey, we can make money off of this, let’s magnify these people’s vices. And then it does become a trend – ohh, this is what’s hot right now, fixing myself.
I don’t know. I don’t know if any of that made sense. I agree with your blog. I think that it is ridiculous that we are so pathetic that we saturate ourselves in other people’s lives to make ourselves feel better or more real. It is gonna take one hell of a lot of reversing to undo this big mistake that society has made to delve into the lives of these empty people.

I agree that it seems like there is always some trend be it postive or negative brewing in Hollywood. Obviously I am more encouraged by the ones that are postitive such as adopting. If this triggers more people in the world to adopt then adopt away Angelina! However rehad as you spoke of is so negative and sad. I think that by all these celebrities publically going to rehad then making a mockery of it by relapsing right away is sending a horrible message to Youth. Handbags, jeans, hats I can handle as crazes but something as life changing and dangerous as rehad is a fad that I think is over the top.

Seems like every time you turn around there’s a new fad. Just last year it was getting engaged and/or married…ah the good old days. But as someone who knows several recovering addicts (you’re never “cured” they’ve patiently explained to me), I remember how hard it was to just stand by and watch while they tried to get themselves out of the hellhole that addiction is. If I could have done it for them, and far earlier, I would have.
But I couldn’t. Because no one knows whether they’re an addict until the realisation just dawns. It sounds simplistic, but that’s the only way I can describe it. Whether these stars all need it and are realising they do because others around them are coming to the same realisation or not, I can’t say. But if they are, I hope they make it.
And they should get new publicists, if they’re the ones who think telling the world will get them to lay off. Ha!
