I was just looking at CNN.com and one of the headlines was “Brangelina Move to Orleans”. Even CNN uses those damn combo-names. And do you know who we have to blame for this? Kevin Smith. Damn you Kevin Smith for unleashing “Bennifer” upon the world when J.Lo and Ben Affleck were dating. It’s not entertaining anymore. I don’t know why people still insist on using these damn names. The only time I found this funny was when Ben Affleck hosted SNL after his big break up with J.Lo and he talked about being part of “Boprah”. Aaaah that was hilarious. Could you imagine Ben Affleck and Oprah?? Anyways, this is just bugging me. Especially when even CNN uses these damn things.

i totally agree with your rant here. we look to the news to become informed about important events happening around our world. it is completely annoying to turn on the news and hear the same stories you could have heard on “entertainment tonight.” a couple weeks ago i was watching CBC news and the anchor said, “up next we’ll tell you which LA party girl recently entered rehab.” i was thinking “are you kidding me?!” i lost a little respect for CBC news after that.

I completly agree with you. I hate the combined names, like they are just so pointless and completly forget people individuality. Its amazing how even highly rated news shows on prime time television are using this media names that are so juvinille and pointless.
Fantastic blog!!!

Yep you’re right. Whenever a new celebrity couple gets together there’s always a buzz as to what their combined name should be. Should her name be the first part or last? Who cares anymore.
As to what cudzie said, I think that its completely apparent now as to the demand for celebrity news. Even CBC has to resort to it to inform its viewers.
Celebrity culture has been booming and CBC has obviously felt the need to report on it. Maybe you shouldn’t lose respect for CBC quite yet, if you think that respect should be lost, maybe it should be to the viewers, us, that are all quietly demanding that all stations include it in their programming.
Anyways, like goingsomewear, I think that celeb names are just getting old now. What’s the point?

It’s completely brutal that even CNN is using such terms. They’ve fallen into the pop cutlure pit. Since when were people like brad and angelina even on anything other than ET? I think that shows like ET are the news for pop culture events and people and that’s where they should stay; leave news channels for news… As for this Kevin Smith, it’s really nice he’s learned how to combine 2 names into 1, it’s really cute, but i wish people would stop caring. Looks like the rest of you have!!
